  24. Address Database version 1.1 is a low-cost software package 
  25. for managing names and addresses.  It sports a slick Windows 
  26. interface that displays a summary of all names in the address
  27. book as well as the detail for each name.

  29. It allows you to enter names, addresses, phone numbers and 
  30. unlimited notes about each name in the address database; find 
  31. names with the click of one button; categorize the names and 
  32. filter your list by categories; maintain a list of names you 
  33. generally send holiday cards and gifts to; print mailing 
  34. labels; print file folders; print phone lists; print address 
  35. books on standard or Day-Timer paper; print Holiday lists; 
  36. keep a "To Do" list; import names and addresses from other 
  37. software packages; export names and address to other software 
  38. packages (for mail-merge, etc.) and merge existing files 
  39. together for creating consolidated address books.

  41. Address Database 1.1 has an intelligent zip code that 
  42. automatically fills in the city and state for zip codes that 
  43. have been previously entered.  It also contains intelligent 
  44. phone numbers that convert alphabetics to numerics.  Address 
  45. Database costs less than half the price of existing personal 
  46. information managers and the Windows interface is sharp and 
  47. lightning fast.  Unlike most name and address managers, Address 
  48. Database lists a summary of names and the detail of each 
  49. highlighted name, all on the same screen.

  52. IBM AT or higher compatible computer running Microsoft Windows 
  53. version 3.0 or higher, a monochrome or color EGA, VGA or 
  54. better monitor, 1M RAM, Windows Notepad installed, and

  75. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  77. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  78. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  79. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  80. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  81. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  82. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  83. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  86. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  87. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  88. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  89. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  90. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  91. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  92. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  93. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  94. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  95. Shareware.

  98. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  99. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes

  118. Address Database is a "shareware program" and is provided at no 
  119. charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with 
  120. your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part 
  121. of another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is 
  122. to provide personal computer users with quality software without
  123. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  124. continue to develop new products.

  127. Address Databaseand continue to use Address Database after a 
  128. reasonable trial period, you must make a registration payment 
  129. of $19 + $5 shipping/handling to Pragmatic Software Co.  The 
  130. $19 + $5 shipping/handling registration fee will license one 
  131. copy for use on any one computer at any one time.  You must 
  132. treat this software just like a book.  An example is that this 
  133. software may be used by any number of people and may be freely 
  134. moved from one computer location to another, so long as there 
  135. is no possibility of it being used at one location while it's 
  136. being used at another.  Just as a book cannot be read by two 
  137. different persons at the same time.

  140. their copies of Address Database within 30 days of first use 
  141. or their license is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may 
  142. be made by contacting Pragmatic Software Co.

  144. Anyone distributing Address Database for any kind of 
  145. remuneration must first contact Pragmatic Software Co. at the 
  146. ddress below for authorization.  This authorization will be 
  147. automatically granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) 
  148. as adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and 
  149. such distributors may begin offering Address Database 
  150. immediately (However Pragmatic Software Co. must still be 
  151. advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the
  152. latest version of Address Database).

  177. INSTALLING ADDRESS DATABASE
  178. ---------------------------
  179. 1.  Insert the Address Database diskette into your A or B
  180.     drive.
  181. 2.  Go to a Dos Prompt and enter dir a:\*.* or b:\*.*, 
  182.     depending on which drive the diskette is in.
  183. 3.  If the only file you see is Addrdb.zip, you must first
  184.     uncompress this file.  Otherwise, go to step 5.
  185. 4.  To uncompress Addrdb.zip, enter at the Dos Prompt,  
  186.     a:\pkunzip addrdb.zip (or b:\pkunzip addrdb.zip)
  187. 5.  Now go into Windows.
  188. 6.  Access Window's Program Manager, and click on File/Run.
  189. 7.  Enter a:\setup.exe (or b:\setup.exe)
  190. 8.  Follow the on-screen directions to install Address
  191.     Database.
